Sideways - a movie

I went to see Sideways the other night at the Uptown. It was okay...rentable, but not really a must see. Had a few funny parts, though.

The Uptown needs to be remodeled. I like how it still has the art deco type look to it, but it seems kind of ratty or dirty somehow. Like it needs a good scrubbin' w/ some 409.

I'll be going there again - seem to have cool movies playing there.

  • The Uptown was dirty way back when & I can't imagine it being any worse now. But its possible. We used to go there to see Rocky Horror on Sat nights @ midnight in highschool. I remember they frisked everyone on the way in. That was the best selling point for me.

  • Who knows, Lynne - maybe you'd love the movie. A few people in the theatre were clearly enjoying it to the utmost. You know - the ppl who laugh at things that aren't that funny...Like they're trying to show the people around them, "I'm sophisticated. I get this humor..." They annoy me. Also, the movie's other main character is wine. Frankly, wine snobs also annoy me. Give me a beer or a Jack/Coke any day. Wine is fine (I rhyme) sometimes, but I don't see what the big whoop is.

HotBabe - I want to go there and get frisked to!! But, by whom?? The guy selling tickets....Ummm....no thanks!

  • No, it was buy some big bouncer guy. But I just liked the notion of pay five bucks (years ago) to see a movie & get felt up by some burly man.

  • Kiddo, you just pinpointed the exact reason why I try to avoid the Uptown theater at all times: the laughing snooty snobs. They can really ruin a movie. And the seats which must be crawling in bacteria. I smelled one once, out of curiosity, and it wasn't pleasant. Can you imagine what those seats are hosts to? But I'm dying to see Sideways because I loved Election and About Schmidt, but I'll wait until it expands to more theaters. I had a bad experience when I went to see Fargo there. Sure, Fargo is mostly a comedy, but there are some scenes that are not meant to be funny or laughed at, like the shocking moment where the bad guy shoots the innocent highway patrolman in the head. It's not funny. It's not meant to be funny. In fact, it's supposed to create tension by making you realize for the first time that things are going to go very wrong. But that didn't stop the idiot behind me from guffawing loudly. Moron.
